STUDENTS

I really enjoy meeting students and hearing from you.  Here are some things I'm often asked about. Be sure to scroll down for more information about improving your writing, publishing student writing, and more.

Yes, I'm always happy to answer specific questions but I can't write your whole report. Send me an e-mail. Contact Suzanne

Start with this short biography.  I grew up in the Bay Area in California. There is another writer named Suzanne Williams who grew up in Oregon. She has a different birth year from mine. You'll find these years on the copyright page of our books. I'm older! Many websites get us mixed up. If you're not sure if you have the right Suzanne, check our books. Mine are listed on this site.

Yes, I'd love to talk about that. Ask your librarian, teacher, or parent to contact me. There is information about my school and library visits here. It takes some time to organize a visit so start early. I hope I get to meet you.

That's easy. No. You can read the blurb on the cover to get an idea, but I wrote the book so you can read it. Enjoy.

I always loved listening to and telling stories. When I was in elementary school I drew pages and pages of illustrations for stories in my head. Later I wrote down thoughts, poems, and ideas just for me. If I'd put them all in one place, it would have been a journal. I didn't start writing seriously until I was married, had kids, and was teaching school.

Lots of students ask me this and often they and their families are excited about the idea. Self-publishing can be disappointing. It can be expensive. There are some scammers acting as "publishers" who really just want money. If you plan to self-publish, be sure to check carefully to be sure you are working with a reputable company.  I recommend you enjoy writing, work on your craft, and share your work informally for now. Or try getting published in one of the places that excepts student work. Be aware, that when you are published, some people will like what you did and some won't. Competition is keen and criticism can be sharp. Take some time to think about why you want to publish right now. If that's your decision, good luck. You might also look at the For Writers section.
